DVD Release Date: April 4, 2006
Starring: Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, William Moseley, Anna Popplewell, Tilda Swinton.

DVD Review: “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” tells the story of the four children, Lucy, Peter, Edmund, and Susan, and their adventures in the mystical world of Narnia. Sent to the British countryside for their own safety during the blitz of World War II, they discover an entryway into a mystical world through an old wardrobe. Narnia is inhabited by mythical, anthropomorphic creatures suffering under the hundred-year rule of the cruel White Witch. The arrival of the children gives the creatures of Narnia hope for liberation, and all are dragged into the inevitable conflict between evil (the White Witch) and good (Aslan the Lion).

The Matador

The Matador

DVD Title: The Matador
DVD Release Date: July 4, 2006
Starring: Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear, Hope Davis.

DVD Review: This is a hip and hilarious dark comedy. Pierce Brosnan gives one of his finest performances in “The Matador,” a low-key buddy comedy with an agreeably sinister twist. Julian Noble (Pierce Brosnan), a hitman, meets Danny Wright (Greg Kinnear), a down-on-his-luck businessman in Mexico. They form a sort of twisted friendship. Later, Julian takes Danny into his confidence while watching a bullfight and shows him how to function as a killer. Danny is both terrified and exhilarated. Then, six months later, Julian shows up at Danny’s house in Denver and ask for an impossible favor.

The Libertine

The Libertine

DVD Title: The Libertine
DVD Release Date: July 4, 2006
Starring: Johnny Depp, Samantha Morton, John Malkovich, Paul Ritter, Stanley Townsend.

DVD Review: Johnny Depp delivers one of the best performances of his career in “The Libertine,” a gem from debut director Laurence Dunmore. Depp shines through the murky gloom of 17th-century England in this biopic about the little-known John Wilmot, aka the Earl Of Rochester, an unlikable man who somehow near the end wins almost everyone over.
